Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton

All our cotton is organic - grown and processed without the use of chemicals and pesticides, it does not damage the soil, has less impact on air and uses on average 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton.

If developing world farmers, of which there are close to 100 million (if we include their families and workers) farm organically, their profits are up to 50% higher due to not having to buy chemical pesticides and fertilizers. This enables farmers to feed, shelter and clothe their families, educate their children and afford healthcare; and have food security which is not the case with conventional farming.

Conventional cotton agriculture causes long term contamination of the fresh water supply, of rivers and seas due to pesticides and fertilizers; animal, human and microbiological death, desertification and is a big contributor to climate change. Pesticide debt has led to 250000 suicides in India. African farmers are abandoning farming and migrating to Europe in search of work, often dying in the process.

Organic cotton is better for the farmers. Better for the planet. Better for you.

We aim to be entirely transparent – our denim currently contains 2% elasthane, but we will be phasing this out, as micro particles from this are released when washed, causing problems with marine life.

Silk

Silk

Silk production has less impact on the environment than many other fabrics. Silk worms feed on pesticide free mulberry leaves. We are working towards using entirely organic silk.

RECYCLED POLYESTER AND NYLON

RECYCLED POLYESTER AND NYLON

Regular polyester and nylon are produced from petroleum, a non renewable resource. We work with recycled polyester and nylon made from single use plastic water bottles and fishing nets, diverting these from landfill – this uses 50% less energy to produce than new fabrics. These are still not ideal as they release micro particles when washed. We are phasing these out and researching more sustainable replacements.

RECYCLED DOWN

RECYCLED DOWN

This extends the life of another precious resource. It offers unparalleled thermal qualities, and identical performance, quality and benefits to virgin down. It is also kinder to geese and ducks.

WOOL

WOOL

British Wool

There are two British wools in the collection. One is from the rare Wensleydale sheep, of which there are only 1800 breeding females in the world. These sheep are not bred for meat, and live out their lives in an award winning ethical environment. This is processed in the mills of West Yorkshire and the Scottish Borders. The second is spun and woven from naturally coloured fleece, with no artificial dyes and no synthetic detergents – and is a naturally organic process supporting British heritage skills.

Recycled wool

This is sourced from the Prato region of Italy where centuries old craft skills have successfully merged with modern industry requirements and sustainable innovations. Reducing waste, our recycled wool is producing from off cuts and discarded clothing, therefore it does contain a small percentage of other fibres.

REACH compliant dyes

REACH compliant dyes

Our dyeing and printing is all REACH compliant. REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by toxic chemical use.

Packaging

Packaging

Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified products ensure that the production of wood and paper based products is managed in an environmentally responsible way. Wood is a carbon sink and captures CO2 from the atmosphere. FSC certified methods are socially beneficial and commercially viable for the producers, as well as offering a more sustainable alternative to recycled paper and card.

All our packaging is made from FSC paper and is biodegradable.
